Highway 73 runs through Arthur's Pass in the heart of the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Arthur's Pass National Park has an incredible diversity of flora and landscape. They range from eastern beech clad hills and tussock valleys to the luxuriant rain forest in the west. The highest mountains have glaciers and surrounding them are tussock basins, flowering herbs and alpine grasses.
This highway links Christchurch City on the East Coast with the West Coast on the opposite side of the Southern Alps. Arthur's Pass village lies in the centre of the park 154 kilometres from the city of Christchurch in the east (2 hours drive) and 100 kilometres from Greymouth in the west. (11/2 hour's drive) The main road between Greymouth and Christchurch, State Highway 73 goes right through the park and the village of Arthur's Pass. Winding in places it is one of the country's most scenic routes.

Lake Mapourika is located on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand. Measuring 11 square kilometers it is the largest lake in South Westland. It is also located in the Te Waihipaunamu World Heritage area. Nestled in dense bush amidst towering hills means the views are stunning.
Lake Mapourika is popular for Kayaking and fishing. Brown trout and an increasing number of salmon can be encountered. Mapourika is close to the glacier towns of Fox and Franz Josef, and one can fish in sight of New Zealand's tallest mountains.
